Quarantine with eSHa Products: Plan Before You Dose

Retire the former four-day cocktail

Our old simultaneous 2000/EXIT/gdex routine, “95%” coverage claim and automatic transfer after seven more days were not substantiated here. That routine also failed to represent gdex’s separate dosing days. It has been removed.

eSHa publishes different freshwater and marine quarantine guidance, distinguishes apparently healthy fish from sick fish, and varies its advice by the origin of new stock. Read the current sequence rather than compressing several courses into one. A quarantine sequence is not a prescription for an unexplained active illness.

Build a written quarantine record

• Record the arrival date, source, species and which fish share the quarantine water.
• Check the system’s actual water volume and record water-quality measurements, feeding and behaviour.
• For each medicine, note its exact name, concentration, leaflet, dose time and the water volume used.
• List non-dosing days, equipment changes and water changes alongside medication amounts.
• Keep observations and photographs so worsening signs or recurrence can be assessed.

A seeded filter still needs monitoring; it is not proof of immediate capacity for every new stock load. Equipment should be suitable for the fish and treatment plan, and cross-contamination between systems should be considered.

Decide on transfer from evidence, not this page’s calendar

The appropriate observation period depends on the fish, suspected exposures, symptoms and any treatment. Establish that plan with suitable fish-health advice. Normal appetite on one day, completion of a calculation or disappearance of visible spots is not a universal clearance test.

Marine fish-only quarantine directions must not be applied to a display containing corals or other invertebrates. Product suitability for one system does not establish suitability for another.
