eSHa HEXAMITA guide: standard course and important limits

By Richard James · Manufacturer sources reviewed 28 October 2026

The HEXAMITA calculator scales the standard three-day course; it does not diagnose the cause of a fish’s symptoms. Identify the exact eSHa product, review its leaflet and establish that the proposed use is appropriate before measuring.

Product scope is not a confirmed diagnosis

eSHa presents HEXAMITA for discus/cichlid-related disease uses and certain other freshwater fish conditions. The page warns that the product contains copper and says not to exceed the advised amount.

This website cannot identify an organism from white faeces, a head lesion or a loss of appetite. Record the observations, water tests, timeline, feeding and previous products. Seek appropriate fish-health advice where the cause is unclear or the fish is deteriorating.

Check the standard result

Before useQuestionWhy it matters
BottleDoes it say eSHa HEXAMITA?A similarly named medicine is not the same formulation.
VolumeMeasured water or an explicit estimate?Do not deduct decor twice.
CourseAre all three day rows separate?A course total is not a single first addition.
Other residents and productsHave their restrictions been checked?A fish amount does not validate a shared treatment system.

Open the HEXAMITA calculator. It does not select a higher, repeated, preventive or extended regimen. If your situation or bottle does not match the standard result, obtain clarification instead of choosing an exception from a general article.

Keep equipment instructions specific

eSHa says to keep non-adsorbing filtration operating and remove the listed active media, UV/oxidisers and resins. Its FAQ describes water-change exceptions, including prior treatment and water-quality circumstances.

Check the equipment guide and the exact leaflet together. Do not switch off the entire filter merely because chemical media must be removed.

Combinations need their own check

The manufacturer lists specific eSHa combinations and restricts other-brand mixtures unless explicitly approved. That is not permission to add any third product, conditioner or medicine. Read the conditioner-compatibility guide before preparing replacement water.

A saved calculation proves neither that a previous medicine has been removed nor that a combination is suitable. Keep a dated record of everything actually added.

Track the response without inventing a deadline

  1. Record the course and quantities actually used.
  2. Keep photographs and observations tied to dates.
  3. Record water changes, tests and equipment changes.
  4. Ask for reassessment when the course or response is unclear.

No fixed recovery day, automatic extra dose or medication change is selected here. Use the missed-dose checklist if the course was disrupted.

Common questions

Does a head lesion prove Hexamita infection?

This website cannot confirm that diagnosis. A product’s listed uses do not establish the cause in an individual fish.

Can I halve or double the amount for a species?

This guide supplies no species multiplier. Check the supplied instructions and appropriate advice.

Does every eSHa bottle use the same course?

No. Choose the exact product; do not transfer HEXAMITA’s result to another eSHa medicine.
