Ich-X: bottle strength, preparation and repeat-dose limits
By Richard James · Manufacturer sources reviewed 28 October 2026
The useful result is an amount for an identified bottle and water volume. It cannot confirm a diagnosis or tell you that a treatment has finished. Keep the manufacturer's full directions beside your treatment record.

Identify the bottle before calculating
Hikari gives different rates for Aquarium Solutions Ich-X and Pond Solutions Ich-X: respectively 5 mL per 10 and per 50 US gallons. Those are different formulations. Select the exact bottle in the calculator; never transfer an amount between them.
Check the treatment setup
- Hikari recommends a separate treatment system.
- Remove carbon, keep ordinary filtration running and change at least one third of the water before each addition.
- Check the exact replacement-water conditioner: Hikari excludes specified sulfur-based conditioner classes and other medications. An ingredient uncertainty needs clarification from the maker.
- Read the invertebrate and staining precautions. Do not use a bottle that has frozen or contains clumps or crystals.
One number is not a repeat schedule
Hikari's timing instructions depend on the course and include continued treatment after visible signs cease. The calculator gives one addition. Do not interpret it as permission to redose whenever spots remain, or to stop as soon as they disappear.
Make a usable treatment record
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Bottle and formulation | A photograph of the label avoids a later strength mix-up. |
| Water volume and units | Measured water and nominal capacity are different inputs. |
| Date, time and amount actually added | A displayed result is not evidence that an addition occurred. |
| Changes and observations | Record replacement water, other products and the fish's response before deciding the next action. |
If the label, history or response is unclear, obtain manufacturer or fish-health advice rather than improvising the next addition.
